This site presents a new generation of Spliced compositions. In 2013 I developed the first of a new generation of algorithms designed to rip open the dark heart of spliced. My grand dream is that these resulting arrangements will provoke a renaissance in the forgotten art of the ATW one-part.
Spliced is difficult. The pinnacle of spliced composition, the one-part ATW peal, is a beast of fiendish complexity to produce, and one in which few composers specialise. Perhaps for this reason it has not seen the quiet revolution in little-bell music which has taken place in peal composition for single methods.
To bring this and other features of compositional modernity to one-part spliced required a new approach. The traditional brute-force computer search can make little progress, and so I turned to a class of algorithm based on probabilistic metaheuristics, including the method of simulated annealing, stochastic tunneling, and genetic search. These new ideas bore rapid fruit, and I have continued to push deeper into the dark heart ever since.
